I was very excited when I received my Secura Ice Cream Maker. All I could think about were my childhood days of waiting on my dad to finish hand turning the churn so we could all enjoy fresh homemade ice cream. Thankfully, the days of the manual churn are long gone because I would never have the patience to sit and turn that churn over and over again! However, I do love the taste of homemade ice cream, and it is a taste that I want my children to be able to enjoy too. That is why I decided to purchase an ice cream maker. I liked that the Secura maker has a removable bowl that preps itself. That way, I did not have to worry about remembering to freeze the bowl in advance, and I could make ice cream whenever I wanted.
It was not until I actually set up and started to operate the ice cream maker that I found my favorite features of it though. The Secura Ice Cream Maker has a number of safety features that make me much more comfortable using it. The machine has to run for more than half an hour. As I mentioned, I have kids. They are both quite small, and although they know to be careful around kitchen appliances, I know there is always a chance an inquisitive child will want to check on the ice cream when I am not in the room.
Thankfully, the Secura Ice Cream Maker includes a safety feature that will make it not run if the lid is not locked into place. I am completely thrilled with this feature because it means I do not have to worry about injury to my children should their curiosity get the best of them. Of course, I instruct them to stay away from the machine, but I have learned that with small children in the house, it is better to be safe than allow something to happen.

Notes: I have read reviews about another brand having problem with the motor arm. As the ice cream thickens, the arm jumps up and unable to secure. I do not own this particular brand, so I have no comments. But this secura ice cream maker does not have this type of problem. The churning device is secured and perfectly centered. The motor stays in placed all the time and even after it stops churning because the ice cream is too thick to churn.

I have used ice cream makers in the past. I felt like those machines were nothing but a joke. It took a long time to finish a batch, not mentioning you have to pre-freeze the bowl, and the ice cream they made... it is not even ice cream. Because of this, I found myself using them very rarely, which was an absolute shame considering just how much my family loves homemade ice cream.
